Lagerfeld

Not that this little, ranty blog post will make any difference whatsoever in a world as gated and judgemental as the high-fashion industry but here goes.

Karl Lagerfeld comes from an industry background where any size above a UK 10 is deemed ‘a little too fat’. Sure, he might be an iconic designer, a multi-millionaire with multiple lines on the market but what on Earth gives this man the right to comment on anyone’s body but his own? You’d think that a man of such influence would be urging women to love, accept and treat their bodies well instead of making public, detrimental and potentially damaging comments about weight or body shape.

I’m not going to get into Adele’s weight. Healthy or not that is not the point. I’m talking about a man who called this (NSFW) woman ‘too heavy’ and insists his designs are for ‘slender and slim’ people. As for the whole ‘Adele’ debacle, you can’t go showering someone with compliments only to completely undermine them with a comment about weight. It’s unjust and it’s downright sneaky. You can’t sugar-coat over a negative with a positive and expect to get away with it.

But, because of the fashion community’s hesitation to take this man up on his views and the fact that a lot of people take his word as gospel, a huge step backwards has been taken for those fighting to see a more healthier, curvier example of model strut the catwalk and this man will carry on getting away with making vile remarks about the opposite sex. Thanks Lagerfeld, ever the first to arrogantly body-shame any woman who falls outside of your ideal of the perfect body. I dread to think about the conversations that take place behind closed doors. Get a grip on reality.

I’m sorry this is all over the place, I’m no writer but man… Come on!
